Karen Hyde is a CIPR Accredited Practitioner
I founded Karen Hyde Ltd in 2014 after many years working in corporate communications for some of the world’s largest pharmaceutical, financial services and FMCG companies.
During those years I’ve led internal communication campaigns, worked with senior leaders to develop communication plans for organisational change, technology migration and company mergers.
Cultural awareness and sensitivity
Having travelled worldwide for business and lived for a short time in the Middle East and West Indies, I tend to see things from an international perspective. People often say my cultural knowledge, perception and sensitivity really shines through in my conversations with others, which helps to build trusted connections with people of different backgrounds and circumstances.
Doing the groundwork
I really love research and discovering people’s opinions. Sometimes the groundwork reveals a golden nugget that could have otherwise gone unaddressed. That’s why I enjoy conducting in-depth research interviews for team effectiveness and leadership development workshops. It’s all about asking the right questions, listening more than talking, and sifting through the results to give clients the insight they need to move towards the outcome they want.
Making things happen with the outcome in mind
I’m a problem-solver, resourceful, super-organised, and tech-savvy, I absolutely relish the challenge of a complex project, defining the outcome and making things happen on time and within budget.
I’m curious about new digital technologies; especially how they help virtual teams to work better and smarter together across international and functional boundaries.
With a creative flair
A whizz with copywriting and content, I also like to get involved with the visual side of communications and always happy when creating impactful and engaging presentations to reflect your values and share your story.
And when I’m not doing all that…
I love to travel. Anywhere. It doesn’t need to be a far flung, glamourous destination, it’s lovely to visit somewhere new. Then, as a qualified RYA skipper, I’ll never pass up an opportunity be on or near the water, even if it’s just paddle-boarding. Alongside that, I have two grandsons and a couple of Siberian Huskies keeping me more than busy.
What else should you know?
I once heard that project managers and creative types make great chefs, which probably explains how I can knock up something appetising and edible from anything that may be in the cupboard.
On a serious and important note, keeping my skills and knowledge up to date is very important to me and that’s why I’ve invested 10 years in continued professional development with the CIPR.
